I was reading this morning in Max Lacado's "The Inspirational Study Bible" about a wedding he attended. He mentioned how the groom broke down and cried when his bride came up the isle, dressed in all her glory. He likened it to Christ dying for His bride (the church) dressed in all her glory.
My mind went back to the weddings I have attended, 9 were my own children, 1 was my own, and many when we was in the wedding business. I also thought about what the Bible has to say about marriage. I think the first verse that has a rule for marriage we find in the 1st book the second chapter, the 24th verse where it says "Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother, and be joined to his wife and they shall become one flesh" (It seemed to me that my daughters all left their father and mother, and went to where their husbands lived. I might add that this is changing, and although they still don't live as close as I would like they are coming closer) And also, I perfectly understand why it was that way. When I think of it, my daughter-in-laws all left their father and mother and moved to my son's home state. Hmmm, I wonder if that is the way it should be (but, daughter-in-laws don't you dare move my sons away.)
But I'm getting away from part of my story. This morning I had to think of my youngest son, he was an open sort of person, and I could read him like a book, he told me when he had done good and, most of the time
when he had done bad. Poor guy, thought he never was going to get married, but when he found his one and only, believe me there was no other girl in the world. He was the one that I actually could tell when he left father and mother. We were sitting at his wedding when he and his grooms men came in. He kept glancing at us and when he took his place at the front he looked at us and smiled. All of a sudden he lift his eyes toward the back of the church. He had spotted his bride coming down the isle toward him and he couldn't take his eyes off of her. At that point Pop and I might as well been part of the bench we were sitting on. I didn't mind because he married a lovely young girl who has seemed to accept us and fit in with the family. I'm sure the above story could have been told in fewer words but I've never been one of few words, until recently because I can't talk, but I can still type
Also a verse in Psalms has been really meaningful to me since we viewed flood damages last week. Psalm 93:3 & 4. New King James says "The floods have lifted, O Lord, The floods have lifted their voice; The floods lift up their waves. The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, Than the mighty waves of the ocean." For those that have ever seen a flooded area know what water can do. It comes in everywhere, like it or not, and it destroys everything in it's path. Man is pretty mush helpless when flood waters come, yet our Lord is so much mightier than waters or floods. And I'm glad He is, He is the one we can turn to when the waters flood our homes and barns and also when trials and burdens flood our soul. He is mightier than anything that can disturb our lives.
I'll end this post with part of Sheila's poems, that came this week.
When smallest steps are mountains to my feet--
Curbstones too high, an inch or so complete;
When I must walk, head low to watch my way,
With caution lending fortitude, and canes, perhaps my stay....
Grant me to know the mountains to my soul
To be but footstones small from goal to goal.
When these my knees won't bend, then let me bow
My spirit to the Lord I kneel to now
And let me run with leaping steps to God.
In prayer from one whose feet must shuffle-plod.
Until the day my summons from on high
Comes to my climbing soul....
--THEN LET ME FLY!

ooh, neat poem! Kinda proud to be her aunt!
Great post today! Your granddaughter has written you lovely poems ... maybe you could pair them with some of your photographs. I pray that the Lord continues to bless you with nimble fingers since he's taken away your speech. Type on!
Another lovely poem by Sheila -- and some good insights of your own!
Wonderful story! My daughters have all married but my son is waiting for the Lord to show him Miss Right.
The poem is beautiful!! Would you/she mind if i copied it just to re-read for my own pleasure?
I love that poem and the truth of your post...not far away at any time and especially as we grow older. Faith is a beautiful thing and opens doors for the soul, doesn't it. My daughter stayed in the state she graduated from college from. I miss her yet..but have finally learned to live without her near.
Hi. I stopped by cuz I saw your beautiful cloud pic on Betsafly Gallery - only to find that your whole site is beautiful!
Great story. Great poem, too.
Have a great day!
