In recent years we have had several floods. Bad ones that made headlines. Some one day and some 2 or 3 days. Then life goes on for most of us. But do ever wonder several months later what is happening to those that were flooded. We hear of big Tsunamis, big hurricanes, tornados and the like. Those stick in our memory enough that they are brought to mind now and again. But what about other wind and flood damage. In the Northwest there was a flood in December, how often do we think about it and pray for those that lost their homes and are trying to rebuild their life? That was 3 1/2 months ago, and I'm probably as guilty as the rest in not praying for the people that were effected by the flood and those that are trying to help clean up.
The one plea that the helpers heard over and over again was, "Please don't forget us." Everyone rushed in the first week to help, while the people were still trying to sort things out. One church group that went in to help in the Vernonia, Oregon area went back home because there was nothing to do at first. Actually they need more help now than they did to begin with. The church group is coming back out (from PA etc,) I'm sure there a several church groups and others helping.
My daughter was one of the fortunate ones.
Laurie's house was surrounded by water but no water got in the house.
As we viewed the damage later there were roads washed out and bridges,
One of the brideges that were washed out, with it part of the highway was detroyed. You can see the yellow line in the piece of bridge.
Vernonia had more water, but Centraiia was left with acres of mud. Some of the farms can't even be farmed because of the mud that was left. In Vernonia they are raising some of the houses so when the next flood comes hopefully their house will be above the water.
Raising a house in Vernonia. (Note the house to the right has not been raised)
Pray for those that are left without a home, or have to rebuild, repair, and replace. Also pray for those that are helping, that they will show the love of God to the people they are helping.
A load of young people that have worked cleaning up houses.
It would be wonderful if some of people would get saved thru this, and call on God. It always amazes me when we can't call on God unless something tragic happens. We can't pray in our schools, but let someone get shot and you see groups of students with their arms around each other. "Praying" at school.
The people that had flood damage are on my mind today because my daughter left , me some more pictures taken close around their place.
I'll maybe edit this , but I'll post now before I lose what I have wrote

Amazing picture. Even more amazing than the pictures are people like you and your daughter who selflessly help those in desperate need. Yes, they are also in desparate need of a relationship with our Savior and Lord.
Blessings sister.
I can sympathize....we were flooded twice when we lived in the country, red river water in our home. Both times I had a baby in my arms as we boated out. It was devastating. It's a blessing the young people helping. When we were flooded the only people that would help us were two of the x prisoners my husband had ministered to, and one old faithful friend. The whole ordeal still makes me want to cry.
You are such a blessing, your comment was a huge blessing to my heart. It's because of sisters like you that xanga is a beautiful place where the Lord is glorified. : )
I think my entry a few entries back with the pics from the park explained a bit about our flooding experience. It was a beautiful place to live though...as long as the river behaved. ; )
God bless you, with appreciation and the love of Christ, ~Amelia
Are you ready for another Great Gandbaby????
God loves to show us how He works to do what we cannot.
Floods! YUCK! I am relieved to hear that Laurie's place made it okay. That can be so hard to clean up.
I had a little tiny flood that was not devastating when Hunter was a baby and Chris was out of town. The dog woke me up and showed me the water. Who would guess? I went outside in the storm and waded through three feet of water to get to the gate so I could see the front yard where here was a lot more water. It was a quick fix to reroute the water and we only got about an inch in the front part of the house with not much debris. The thing that sticks in my memory is that I wore shorts, thong sandals and a rubber rain slicker out into that storm and was too hot. We had such nice friends who helped me.
Hurricane Opal caused a lot of problems the year before. We worked to protect our neighbors' house and they only got water in their garage. It went up to the threshold and stopped. I learned a lot about preparing for a storm.
Isn't it an unpleasant feeling to keep watching the water inch up and up and not really be sure it has stopped? My other friends had to redo their walls and floors. Everyone was unharmed. That was good.
We went thru a big flood here ten years ago this summer. We lost pretty much everything from the basement & the first floor. Had to tear up walls, floors, etc. What a mess!!! I feel for anyone else who has to go thru it. No fun. No fun at all.
On a brighter note - I got the Lighthouse cards today. How absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! Do you sell them? Because I have to tell you, I'm probably gonna be too selfish to part with any of them. More likely, I will hang them on the wall when I finish redoing my room. But they are so beautiful that it really does seem selfish to hoard them all to myself, so I was wondering if you sell them, how much are they & maybe I could order another set to share & still keep one for myself? It says on the back that you take pictures of nature & children. Do you make cards of them too?
I know I'm babbling on, but I really am blown away by how absolutely beautiful the cards are!!!! Thank you so much for sending them!!!!!
Have a super good day!
Big, Big Hugs! Cindy
I can't even imagine devestation like that! Its worse than terrible. Bless those helpers bringing hope with them.
