  • NINE IS ENOUGH

                         image-21.jpg

It was springtime 1977. And often when the apple blossoms were blooming the children would come to the house with apple blossoms. The girls would have them in their hair. The boys would bring bouquets to mamma. This spring I had my camera ready. So, one Sunday afternoon we went down to the orchard to take pictures.

                                image-2.jpg

This afternoon we took lots of pictures. In trees, on the ground, by groups, and alone.  The above photo is of our four boys, the youngest was just a baby and this was his first spring.  He was born the next to the last day of the year.  I don't think he liked the sunlight too good, his eyes are closed.

One thing I find interesting, since this was years ago, the pictures were not of the quality they are today.  I always got mine developed whereever it was the cheapest.  My mom who loved photos took many of my negatives and got reprints, she would only get them from Kodak.  Today 30 years later, the ones I got printed are faded and the ones she got done have good color even today.

When we first moved on the place the orchard had several small building in it.  They were falling down from age, but the children loved to play in them.  So it was only natural to take a picture in/on one of the sheds.

And it's only natural to add Pop and Mom to the bunch, so I'll end this post with a picture of Pop and Mom and Baby Ben.   My, what 30 years can do!!!

  • Okay now Im not so beautiful.

And that old brown double knit shirt on Ted I remember like it was yesterday.

And lets talk about that shed. It wasnt used just for playing. It was where we milked the cow and where our huge old pig gave birth to scads of babies! It was basically our barn for what it's worth.

Man, "we werent nothin' but poor folk!"

  • Okay, which picture shall I post next, I mean which picture are you beautiful in?  We wouldn't have all the memories if we would have been rich.  BTW what does it mean to be rich?  I feel that at times we were very rich.

I have very few good pictures of Pop , he was always the clown.  But I do have good pictures of him being the clown.   I guess I should put some of them on here.  I'd probably recieve another cow.   Pretty soon I'll have a herd.

  • just came across your site and I love those pictures ! they bring back memories of when I was growing op . Oh for the good old days!!! Thanks for sharing those . God Bless !

  • Great pictures, Aunt Virginia. The picture of the boys is just about how I remember them... oh the times we had with that bunch of hoodlums.

    Thanks for the memories... -Jeff

  • You certainly were rich with children.  Even though you had your hands full when they were little, they have blessed you ... from generation to generation.

  • Look at y'all!  How much fun were you?  I remember.  Remember how exciting it was when Scott was born and you had a son to add to your collection of jewels?

Then Ted, so cute.  Two boys, more wealth.  How old were they before they were allowed to not be carried? :)    I remember how Mart could work a room when he was not yet two.  He knew how to get the girls to come pick him up and give him some cooing. (He still has that charm.) Then baby Ben.  Noooo, he wasn't spoiled.

You know, I remember how surprised I was that you weren't having more.  I know that sounds funny, but I think there was never a woman happier to be a mama.

Hard to believe my handsome uncle was so "svelte" even though his eating at the family gatherings was legendary!

  • No I didn't run out of ideas I just wondered what it was like to have a site without a layout just plain jane you know... and I took a friend test on dakota S. site and this stupid computer was acting up and kept punching in the wrong thging and I knew the right answer to just about all of them! and so there I am at the bottom of the list!

Interesting pictures... poor uncle ben, I doubt I'd enjoy that sun right in my eyes either!

  • The life's lessons you learned as "poor folk" mrs. darling are far more important than being brought up "rich" and poor in character development. You have a blessed life because of the struggles of your youth. Now go tell you ma how happy you are about the way you turned out ... and yes, everyone in photos from the 1970's appears geekishly "ugle" by today's standards (lol)

  • Ma, Mrs Mac says Im spose to tell ya how happy I am for mah upbringin'.  'Cause I respect that lady and cause shes such a booful lady, I will say it right here.  I'm more than happy 'bout how I growed up. Thanks an orful lot!

  • Aaawwww, Tam it warms my heart to hear you say that.  But you wouldn't of had to, because if you check her web site you'll find they don't have DSL where she's moving and it might be a week till her computer's hooked up.  But she is awful dear. and it would be well to keep her as a friend.  There fore I will say I love you too and I'm glad your are my daughter.

  • Wow!  What fun!  I get a flood of memories looking at these pictures.  I must have been about three around that time.  I remember the boys seemed so much older than me but it looks like Marty was only about 5 there.  I remember Pop's nickname of 'Peanut' for him.  I thought it was so neat that he had a nickname until Pop gave ME one.  For some reason I could never fully accept 'Belchy'.  Ha, I laugh now, because it is so funny but the boys could bring me to tears with that lovely name!!!  I love you Pop!  I know 'Chelsea' was a mouthful! :)

  • Thanks for the sweet comment...that clip is soo touching isn't it?

And yes I remember that you are alone...it seems there are so many people with a trial that seems like a mountian ......but its those valley experiances that are a refiners fire in our lives.

    God Bless....
